Labeling
(C) BIM Society
Labeling strategies should include:
-Labeling should be durable, removable, and not cause harm to the object. All labels need to be legible.
-Useful materials for labeling: Acryloid B-72 solution, Acrylic gloss medium, Acetone, Rhoplex, Acid free paper and inks, Archival paper tags with non-reactive string, and a pencil.
-Apply label directly to object if over the size of a dime, smaller objects tagged and stored in bags with label information.
-Avoid important places or surfaces that may be displayed during exhibition. Do not cover or edit maker’s marks.
-Properly clean the surface. Apply a barrier layer of B-72 or other similar solution, then the number (either printed on paper or written with non-reactive ink), and then an appropriate sealing layer. Make sure all layers are easily removed with acetone. Do not use dirty acetone or tools to remove numbers.
